Ingredients
Cake and frosting
1 box yellow cake mix
1/2 cup melted butter, plus additional for buttering baking dish
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
8 oz. cream cheese
4 cups powdered sugar
Bananas Foster sauce
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups bourbon
3 bananas, sliced
3/4 cup butter
Vanilla ice cream
Directions
For cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. With an electric mixer, combine cake mix, butter, 2 eggs and 1 tsp. vanilla. Spread in prepared baking dish. In a separate bowl, whip cream cheese, 2 eggs and 1 tsp. vanilla and slowly mix in powdered sugar. Pour over cake batter and bake for 45 minutes or until cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
To serve: Heat a saucepan over low heat. Add brown sugar and bourbon. When pan is hot, it will flame. Add bananas and cook to allow liquor to reduce and bananas to soften. Remove pan from heat and cream in butter. Cut cake into 12 pieces. Serve each with a scoop of ice cream and bananas Foster sauce.
