For your holiday cheese board, include a selection of three or more cheeses, with an assortment of soft to firm textures, mild to pungent flavors. Add unsalted nuts, textured crackers and small fruits in a variety of colors. For a festive touch, include these candied orange slices.

Ingredients

4 seasonal oranges, sliced approximately 1/8-inch thick
1 cup Ficklin Vineyards Adagio Port Blanc
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar, plus additional sugar for coating

Directions

Pour port, water and 1/2 cup sugar into a deep sauté pan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until sugar has dissolved. Reduce heat to medium-low and add orange slices in a single layer. Simmer for 45 minutes, until orange rinds are translucent.

Remove slices to wax paper on a cooling rack and allow to dry overnight (up to 24 hours). Dip candied orange slices in the additional sugar. These can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a month.
