Tangerine treatments are ahhhh-inspiring

Ojai Valley Inn & Spa uses Pixie tangerines for body scrub treatments.
Massage therapists like Beatriz Paniagua say they enjoy the pleasures and practicality of using the Pixie Tangerine Body Scrub as soon as the local Pixie harvest begins each spring. The scrub cleanses and hydrates the skin, while leaving a delicate scent of tangerine.
It has been voted “The Top U.S. Spa” by Shape Magazine and “The World’s #1 Spa” by TripAdvisor. Ask around, and you’ll discover that the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa has earned its reputation for relaxation in part by offering seasonal body scrubs that highlight the local harvest.
Since being introduced to spa patrons about a decade ago, Pixie tangerines from Ojai farms have become a scrub superstar.
“We are so fortunate to have Pixies grown right here in Ojai,” said spa director Gloria Ah Sam. “The Pixie season feels like one of a celebratory nature that is reflected, we hope, with this scrub.”
Last spring the spa did more than 500 tangerine scrubs, using at least two pieces of fruit per treatment.
“The tangerines are actually used in warmed halves over the body during the exfoliation process, which provides the benefit of added fruit acids,” Ah Sam said. “The treatments are deeply hydrating and leave a soft glow to the skin, with a delicate scent of tangerine.”
Other locally grown ingredients such as sage, rosemary, lavender and honey are incorporated in the spa treatments. In addition, Ah Sam is working with a nearby tea blender to add local ingredients to a signature tea to be served at the spa.
“We are very committed to using locally sourced and organic products as much as we can,” she said.
