Gardening advice to grow from

Advice:¬†"Nothing succeeds like success." –Warren Roberts, retired superintendent, University of California, Davis, Arboretum

My take: Roberts made this comment during an interview I did with him while I was working on a story about agapanthus, which are ubiquitous in the Sacramento area. His point: Don't discount or ignore a plant because it is popular or common. Agapanthus are planted everywhere in that area, he said, and they are beautiful. He encourages gardeners to appreciate the beauty of all plants, even the common ones, and to appreciate that they are common because they succeed in our climate better than most plants. Whether agapanthus or nandina or camellias or anything else, take a closer look. Even if you might not include them in your garden, you can at least appreciate the fact that they do their job well.
