Oranges abound this time of year, especially in California, the nation's leading producer of fresh citrus fruits. Look for seedless and easy-to-peel navel varieties, with their namesake button formation opposite the stem. Cara Cara is a type of navel orange that looks similar on the outside, but has dark pink or red flesh and offers a sweet yet tangy flavor. Moro or blood oranges are a specialty variety with a bright red to deep maroon interior and tastes of orange with a hint of raspberry.
